Many people who suffer from chronic stress, concussion symptoms, headaches, jaw pain, dizziness, sinus pressure or ear pain are frustrated by the fact that most practitioners don’t even look at, not to mention, touch, their head. It seems like common sense that symptoms in the head are likely related to dysfunction in the head itself. This is where Cranial or Craniosacral therapy comes in.
You may be surprised to know that the bones of the skull move. Like gears oriented in different directions the skull bones go through a subtle pattern of widening and narrowing. With sacral movement this process pumps cerebrospinal fluid, (CSF), around the brain and spinal cord bathing it in nutrients and clearing waste products.
When a bone out of sync, CSF doesn’t flow well and brain function diminishes. Stuck bones may cause sinus or ear pressure creating pain, tinnitus or vertigo. Teeth clenching or grinding can be an unconscious attempt to jump start the cranial rhythm using the powerful jaw muscles.
Cranial or Craniosacral therapy uses a very light touch. We feel for bone movement and tension in the dura, (the tissue that surrounds the brain and connects the cranial bones). Movement is restored and tension released. Patients often experience a sense of deep relaxation as the whole central nervous system is put at ease.
